The Federal Government’s push for the establishment of a carbon tax has been significantly bolstered following the release of a new climate change report.

The report, titled ‘The Critical Decade’, was published by the Climate Change Commission and strongly refutes skeptics in saying ‘the evidence that the earth’s surface is warming rapidly is now exceptionally strong, and beyond doubt’.

The head author and commissioner Professor Will Steffen has called for a unified, policy-driven initiative to deal with the inevitable environment and financial losses.

"I don't think we have the luxury anymore of climate denialism. We need to get beyond this fruitless phoney debate in the media," Professor Steffen said.

“We have to make some very important investment decisions this decade if we're to take advantage of this fleeting last opportunity to get this situation under control."
