Financial services group QBE has announced it will be offshoring up to 700 jobs to its Philippines based Group shared Services Centre.

According to claims made by the Financial Services Union (FSU), the offshoring will include claims lodgement, management and reinsurance administration positions.

The announcement has raised the ire of the FSU, who claim that in a meeting held in January, QBE assured the Union that no decision had been made regarding any future job losses.

“Today's report indicates that internal documents show that in fact a raft of plans had been made to move jobs offshore as long ago as October 2012. How many staff have made critical decisions about their jobs and their lives since that date without the benefit of knowing QBE's plans?,” the FSU said in a statement.

“QBE should be honest with its staff and the FSU about the plans QBE to cut jobs from their Australian business and move these roles offshore.”
