Director, Financial Accounting, Treasury and Taxation - Finance and Business Services

The Director, Financial Accounting, Treasury & Taxation provides professional and organisational leadership in the delivery of strategic financial management by developing implementing and maintaining contemporary financial accounting policies, standards and practices for the NSWPF. The Director provides expert strategic advice to the NSWPF Executive regarding current, evolving or emerging financial management issues to facilitate executive decision-making.

Key accountabilities

  • Lead and provide direction to the Financial Accounting, Treasury & Taxation Group and manage the performance of the team to support and build a high performing and professional team.
  • Implement financial policies, systems and processes for the NSWPF and manage the development of strategic initiatives and improvements to support organisational objectives and corporate goals. 
  • Provide financial policies and procedures that meet the needs of NSWPF and that are consistent with contemporary accounting standards and Treasury Guidelines.
  • Contribute to the strategic decision making process by providing high level advice and statutory reporting to the NSWPF Executive. 
  • Manage NSWPF accounts in accordance with statutory reporting obligations and Auditor General requirements.
  • Develop and manage the treasury function, enhancing debt management and forecasting capability, debt management and identification of alternate source of funds.
Key challenges
  • Ensure that the financial accounting policies and procedures meet the operational and business needs of NSWPF, and are managed in accordance with statutory reporting obligations and Auditor General requirements.
  • Keep abreast of current and emerging best practice accounting procedures, and ensure compliance with government policy and statutory requirements. 
  • Ensure that all relevant staff within NSWPF have the knowledge and capacity to work with the accounting framework, and are aware of and can comply with statutory financial accounting requirements.

JOB NOTES:

The NSW Police Force executive structure and employment reforms are expected to be introduced over the next three years. This position will be subject to these changes to employment arrangements. 

Temporary employment/appointment under Section 82D, 90/91 or 95 of the Police Act. 1990 up to 3 years.

Applicants must have Tertiary qualifications in Accounting and an active membership of relevant professional accounting body.
