The City of Sydney is seeking a highly skilled professional for the role of Asset Accountant within the Office of the CFO Division. The Asset Accountant role will oversee the financial capabilities of the Corporate Asset Management System and provide accurate strategic analysis and reporting to senior management on the performance of the City's infrastructure assets. The role includes but is not limited to:
- Corporate Asset System integrity - ensuring appropriate controls are in place to guarantee accuracy and recognise new assets in a timely manner
- Statutory Financial Reporting - Assist in the accurate and timely completion of the City's annual financial statements in relation to infrastructure assets
- Strategic analysis - evaluation of asset maintenance costs, condition, useful lives and asset valuations to guide effective resource allocation
Ideal candidates will be tertiary qualified in accounting (or equivalent subject area), with demonstrated experience in corporate based financial systems, preparing and maintaining complex spreadsheets with a strong background in preparing annual financial reports including the management of detailed audit working papers and effective liaison with external audit teams. You will possess a high level analytical/problem solving ability, excellent communication skills and demonstrate skills to research, develop, maintain and implement financial accounting policies and procedures.
Additionally, you will have sound professional knowledge of the Australian equivalent of International Financial Reporting Standards (AIFRS) and familiarity with the Local Government Act 1993 would be favourably regarded. Qualification (or significant advancement towards qualification) with a professional accounting body is also required.
