The Kangaroo Island Council is seeking a qualified accountant to fill a full time contract leadership position in our Corporate Services Directorate.

You will be reporting to the Director Corporate Services, where you will work in partnership to drive the financial services function of Council with a key focus on improving systems to enhance our effectiveness as a local government business, serving a diverse local community.

A full time contract position in a beautiful part of regional South Australia.

ABOUT THE POSITION

Kangaroo Island Council is operating in a unique space as the Island recovers and rebuilds from the recent Black Summer bushfires and ongoing COVID-19 crisis. This role is an opportunity for you to test your knowledge and skills and contribute to a regional community, facing challenging times.

The Finance Accountant /Manager ideally should be a CA, IPA or CPA, with a commerce or accountancy degree.

The position will report directly to the Director of Corporate Services and oversee the Council's financial services function.

You will work closely with the senior leadership team and the Finance and Audit Committee, as well as lead an existing finance team of four. You will play a key role in delivering timely and meaningful financial information to assist with the management of Council's operations and the bushfire - COVID-19 recovery efforts.

The Accounts officer, Rates officer, Debtors, Creditors and Payroll functions report to this position.

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Business or Commerce with an Accounting Major, supported by;
  • CPA/CA/IPA accreditation (or studies in progress).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of accounting practices with experience in a similar role.
  • Able to work to deadlines with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills.
  • A service focused approach and proven experience in continual improvement and the streamlining of processes and procedures.
