Maribyrnong City Council is undergoing significant change in population growth, redevelopment, gentrification, and a transitioning economy is leading to an influx of new residents, businesses and opportunities.

Our Finance Department has an exciting opportunity for a Systems & Asset Accountant to join their growing team.

You will be responsible for reporting on the progress and delivery of the capital works and improvement program for our Council. As well as the timely collection and collation of accurate information and reports for use by the management, financial and statutory reporting.

You will develop, maintain and ensure continuous improvement of our computerised systems and develop policies and procedures to ensure all of our accounting and asset systems remain compliant.

You will also be responsible for:

  • Knowledge of accounting practices and ERP / Finance Systems
  • Providing full life cycle management of council's infrastructure and assets above and underground, including roads, pathways, parks, reserves, drainage, building as well as plant and equipment
  • Working alongside our financial staff to develop and rejuvenate our accounting policy and guidelines
  • Data mining for reporting purposes
  • Monthly & Quarterly Capital Projects reporting.
  • Liaising with Project Managers and Engineers for updates on project status and delivery schedules
  • Financial accounting for monthly asset capitalisation, depreciation and renewals of assets.
  • Year end financial reporting for all council assets.

You are detail driven and pride yourself on your project delivery reporting and analysis skills. You are able to convert raw data into meaningful information to support Council's decision making processes. Tertiary qualification in Engineering, Accounting or similar and hold and/or possess equivalent knowledge and skills in systems review and development, asset and project delivery ideally within the local government context.
