The Opportunity

The City Futures Department has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Coordinator Economic Development to lead, develop and implement strategies, business cases and initiatives to maximise economic benefit and recovery within the municipality, whilst overseeing the delivery of Council's Smart City Action Plan.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate Council's business support and economic development project initiatives and programs
  • Implement, monitor and review local economic policies (including the Maribyrnong Employment and Industrial Development Strategy) and provide timely advice on significant local economic development issues facing the municipality
  • Identify sources of data, undertake research and analysis to proactively develop plans and strategies in accordance with Council objectives that will underpin sustainable economic development of Maribyrnong
  • Participate in key economic development and tourism groups including regional economic development officers groups; IMAP, StartWest and Footscray University Town
  • Strengthen Council's relationships and engagement with key regional organisations, government agencies, peak industry bodies, trader associations, Victoria University, and local businesses
  • Oversee delivery of the Business Improvement District grant program

About You

To be considered for this role, you will have the following:

  • A tertiary qualification in economic development, business, marketing, economics or similar relevant discipline and significant experience in economic and/or business development, place management, land use planning, or in a multi-disciplinary setting
  • Demonstrated experience and understanding of local government's role in facilitating economic development of the local area with experience working with state and federal government
  • Proven experience in policy research/development and data analysis that drives economic development policies and strategies
  • Experience in leveraging digital and smart city technology to drive economic growth
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects, multi-disciplinary project teams and consultants to deliver outcomes efficiently, within timelines and on budget
