Key Responsibilities

  • Financial Reporting and Analysis:
    • Ensure accurate and timely support in budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and reporting for management, including budget preparation, developing internal management reports, assisting with year-end forecasting, preparing financial statements, and maintaining general ledger accounts.
  • Financial Advisory/ Business Partnering:
    • Support management decision-making by providing labour reporting, budgeting, and forecasting information, overseeing plant hire charge rates and allocations, serving as the primary contact for financial inquiries, offering analysis on budget trends, assisting team members, and preparing financial reports and acquittals for externally funded projects.
  • Project management & Process Improvement:
    • Collaborate with the Team Leader Finance and Finance and Rates team to enhance policies, procedures, and processes, identify opportunities for business and Council process integration, manage system administration and development, liaise with vendors and IT to enhance system capabilities, and analyse internal controls within the Council’s framework, offering suggestions for improvement.

Reporting Relationships:

  • Reports to the Team Leader Finance.
  • Works closely with General Managers, Managers, Team Leaders, other Finance Business Partners, Payroll, and Accounting Officers.
  • No staff reports to this position.

About You:

To be successful in this role you will have:

Essential Skills:

  • Tertiary qualification in Accounting.
  • Demonstrated experience in budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and financial reporting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 and databases.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to establish credibility and build rapport with diverse stakeholders.
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills for negotiation, influence, and motivation of stakeholders.
  • Highly self-motivated with the ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines consistently.
  • High-level analytical skills with the ability to explore new and innovative solutions to business challenges.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience in using Corporate Software and Accounting Systems such as TechnologyOne CiA.
  • Knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation, guidelines, and standards, including the Local Government Act.
  • Experience working in local or state government.
