Assistant Secretary (Chief Finance Officer) Associate Secretary

The Department of Defence is seeking to fill the Senior Executive Service Band 1 position of Assistant Secretary (Chief Finance Officer) Associate Secretary based in Canberra.

The Assistant Secretary (Chief Finance Officer) Associate Secretary is responsible for providing financial advice, assurance and support to the Associate Secretary, Chief Information Officer Group, Estate and Infrastructure Group, Defence People Group and Defence Legal Executive to discharge financial management responsibilities, including through key financial and other management information for strategic decision making and performance review.

  • capable of leading significant and challenging reforms;
  • an exceptional communicator and manager with proven negotiation skills; and
  • possesses very strong budget and financial management skills through significant professional experience.

The remuneration package includes superannuation, an Executive Vehicle allowance and, where applicable, relocation expenses. The salary component for this position may be negotiated with the successful candidate within the Defence Senior Executive Service Band 1 salary range.

Engagement may be negotiated on an ongoing basis or for a specified term. To be eligible for ongoing appointment, an applicant must be, or intend to become, a permanent Australian citizen. This position is a security-designated position. The successful applicant will be required to undergo a security assessment to the appropriate level.

Tertiary accounting qualifications would be desirable.
