The Department of Defence is seeking an outstanding senior executive to lead the Chief Finance Officer Group, based in Canberra ACT.

As part of the Defence Senior Leadership team, the Chief Finance Officer vacancy presents a unique and exciting opportunity for the right person to play a key role in ensuring the effective financial management of the Defence Portfolio's activities across all its functions and projects.

This pivotal senior position is responsible for developing policy and strategies to guide the management of financial and accounting practices within the organisation. This includes overseeing the development of the budget for the Defence Portfolio, providing advice on the financial aspects of policy and strategic decisions made in relation to all departmental activities and the overall management of the Defence Budget of around $35 billion per annum.

The remuneration package includes superannuation, an Executive Vehicle allowance and, where applicable, relocation expenses. The salary component for this position may be negotiated with the successful candidate within the Defence Senior Executive Service Band 3 salary range.

Engagement may be negotiated on an ongoing basis or for a specified term. To be eligible for engagement, an applicant must be, or intend to become, a permanent Australian citizen. This is a security-designated position. The successful applicant will be required to undergo security assessments to the appropriate level.
