Storage and Backup Engineer

About the role

The Storage and Backup Engineer provides delivery of storage capabilities to AFSA through management and maintenance of AFSA’s storage and backup solutions.

Some of the main responsibilities include:

  • deploying and maintaining systems backup and facilities monitoring requirements and thresholds as well as corrective actions
  • performing analysis, development and evaluation of backup and facilities of AFSA’s storage and backup services
  • planning, coordinating and implementing measures to address the appropriate setting and enforcement of retention periods for different backup and facilities systems data sets, rotations and lifecycles, and
  • the strategies and capability for timely recovery of this data and to meet required Recovery Point Objectives (RPO) and Recovery Time Objectives (RTO)
  • supporting the delivery of enterprise technical solutions for projects and business as usual requirements

About you

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • strong written and verbal communications skills, and the ability to work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team
  • 5 plus years’ experience as a senior storage engineer/administrator working with traditional and cloud-based systems
  • expert knowledge in NetApp storage technologies
  • in depth working knowledge of the ISCI, NFS and CIFS Protocols
  • experience with a variety of concepts, practices and procedures related to Cloud Based Storage Technologies- specifically Microsoft
  • proven experience with Commvault/Simpana
  • experience with using scripting tools to investigate issues, collect performance statistics and prepare reports
  • knowledge of Linux and or Windows server administration and Virtual platforms
  • Certification in NetApp or Commvault (highly desirable)
