Our Economic Regulation team is looking for a collaborative, highly motivated and organised individual to join their team as the Regulatory Economist. Reporting to the Group Manager Regulatory Pricing, you will be responsible to provide expert knowledge and advice on economic regulatory matters affecting the energy industry.

Your day in the role:

  • Directly support the Group Manager with key components of regulatory pricing projects for Evoenergy and ActewAGL Retail.
  • Analyse pricing options including tariff structures and levels, studies into customer bill impacts, cross subsidies, price elasticity and price comparisons across gas and electricity network services.
  • Research and analyse past regulatory decisions for positions and precedents.
  • Assist with the coordination of responses and collate material to present evidence and prepare arguments on regulatory matters.
  • Assist in the preparation of responses to regulatory reports.
  • Review submission material and identify strengths, weaknesses, gaps and action required.
  • Support the annual pricing process to re-set electricity and gas network prices.
  • Assist with the development of pricing policies and strategies.
  • Develop processes to monitor compliance of regulatory pricing submissions.
  • Liaise on regulatory matters with staff from Evoenergy and ActewAGL Retail to provide advice on regulatory pricing matters.

What you will need to be successful:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Economics.
  • Detailed understanding of competition policy and economic regulation.
  • Expert understanding of the application of micro-economic theory in a commercial and regulatory environment.
  • Experience and/or aptitude for applying quantitative and econometric techniques to solve problems.
  • Demonstrated personal computing skills with ability to undertake complex computer modelling exercises.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
