ANZ has worked with the NSW Government on a new website for individuals to notify the bank when a family member has died.

NSW customer service minister Victor Dominello announced the National Death Notification Service this week.

“The NSW Government has collaborated with Birth, Death and Marriages across Australia and in particular Queensland to set up the National Death Notification Service,” he said.

The service allows people to directly let ANZ know about a death without having to visit a bank branch with their death certificate.

It matches details about the deceased person against the Australian Death Check system, which holds death registration data from each Birth, Deaths and Marriage Registry across Australia.

Mr Dominello said the service could be expanded to alert other organisations of deaths.

“Ultimately we want more financial institutions and other organisations to come on board. This way you notify the NDNS, and it will notify other organisations subject to your consent,” he said.
