ANZ has announced over 200 job cuts in more than 130 locations this week, with 6 separate restructures running simultaneously.

ANZ is opening a rushed “consultation” period of just a few days, the Finance Sector Union (FSU) says.

The FSU says that with the tiny timeline, ANZ has not answered the critical questions:

  • Which jobs are being cut?
  • Why are they being cut?
  • What is ANZ doing to avoid adverse impacts on staff?
  • What will happen to the workload after these staff are gone?

The union has initiated a dispute with ANZ on the alleged cutbacks and the failed consultation.

“It is our goal to ensure that every effort is made to save jobs and protect ANZ staff from even heavier workloads,” a union statement reads.

“If the dispute isn’t quickly settled in talks between FSU and ANZ, it will be referred to the Fair Work Commission.

“ANZ’s rushed efforts at consultation is made even less credible by the fact that ANZ have given incomplete details of where the jobs are being cut and that makes it impossible for the Union to quickly support impacted members.”

The union has released a list of locations that ANZ provided, indicating the locations of the impacted employees.

“You’ll see that in one case ANZ has said 50 people will go into redeployment from 97 different locations in the Australian Branch Network,” the union says.

“Some of these locations don’t even mention the town while others just mention an office tower that houses literally thousands of ANZ staff. It’s impossible to get to these people in the time proposed by ANZ.”
