The latest ABS salary statistics have been released and it seems medicine is the industry to go for to get the highest pay cheque.

Of the top ten highest paying jobs in the country, six are in the medical field. Surgeons take the top prize with an average salary of $350,383, anaesthetists second on about $302,653 per year. ‘Internal medicine specialists’ average about $254,597 per year (4th highest in the country), while psychiatrists earn around $176,885. In addition to quite reasonable monetary compensation, all these professions come with the perk of helping people and saving lives.

Rounding out the top ten are ‘Other medical practitioners’ and Dentists, earning the not meagre amounts of $155,465 and $140,597 respectively.

For those with less philanthropic leanings; Lawyers, mining engineers and executives all rank in the top ten highest Australian salaries as well.
