Development Opportunities
We offer many opportunities for professional development, and being one of Adelaide's largest employers there are many prospects for internal promotion and additional employment opportunities. We recognise the vital role of networking and mentoring opportunities, not only as a new staff member but throughout your career. There are a number of internal and external networks that the University encourages staff to participate in.

"UniSA is known for its culture of innovation"

When I applied for a job with UniSA my personal goal was to establish a long-term career path in finance and administration.

I was looking to work for a strong SA employer and found UniSA definitely the most modern and forward-thinking university. It is clear that UniSA offers the kind of structure that supports career development, which is important if you want the working environment to stay fresh and productive.

UniSA staff benefits are generous - the superannuation is great - and the flexible working hours provide you with lots of options to help you get the work-leisure-family thing down pat.

"I consider it a privilege to be part of UniSA"

I worked as a casual tutor while undertaking my honours degree at UniSA. When my current position was advertised, I knew it was the job for me! I was keen to be involved in a team that is committed to being at the forefront of its field and strives for excellence in teaching and research. UniSA has some special advantages: flexible working hours; the opportunity to apply for PEP leave; encouragement to study towards higher degrees and the mechanisms to help you achieve them; research support; salary sacrificing; and support for women in developing their careers. Working at UniSA
offers me the perfect mix of teaching, equipping students for their chosen career and applying my skills and knowledge to project and research work. I consider it a privilege to be a part of the dynamic and supportive environment at UniSA.

Opportunities are available for academic staff to teach offshore.

Leave arrangements

In addition to standard allowances for recreation, sick and long service leave, the University provides employees with a range of leave options for special circumstances.

•  Maternity/adoption leave
Sixteen weeks with full pay plus 12 weeks at half pay after 12 months' continuous service.
In addition to the generous leave, phased-in return to work is offered with a reduced fraction of 0.6 remunerated at full-time salary for up to eight weeks. Pre-natal leave of up to six days is also available.

Salary sacrifice arrangements

Employees can minimise their tax burden by taking advantage of the University's salary sacrifice arrangements. Through salary sacrifice, employees can make before-tax contributions to superannuation, car leasing and parking, laptop and portable computers, protective clothing, subscriptions to professional journals, airport lounge membership, business-related software, electronic diaries, taxis to and from work, relocation fees and financial advice.

Superannuation benefits

Most employees receive generous superannuation contributions of up to 17%. Employee superannuation contributions of up to 7% are compulsory with this arrangement and can be salary sacrificed or paid as an after-tax contribution. The superannuation fund also provides insurance benefits such as income protection to most members.

Work/life integration

The University acknowledges the mutual benefit of flexible arrangements to balance work and other commitments. A number of options are in place which allow employees additional leave in return for a pro-rata reduction in annual salary. For example, 4/5 year leave allows employees to work four years out of five while being paid a 0.8 fraction of their full-time salary over the full five years. Other options include taking a pro-rata pay reduction in return for more annual leave.

Employees can also participate in flexible working patterns, allowing individuals to work their required weekly hours in different configurations in consultation with their manager.

General employee working hours are 36.75 hours per week. However, all full-time general employees who work 37.5 hours per week are eligible to accrue an additional four days with pay, to be taken during the Christmas/New Year period.

All employees also have the opportunity to exchange their recreation leave loading for up to four days' leave in addition to the entitlement of 20 days' recreation leave.
