CSIRO are seeking a Senior Impact Evaluation Economist to play a significant role in the Corporate Performance and Evaluation Team (P&E). The P&E Team provides analytical insights on CSIRO’s impact, science quality and innovation capacity.

As the Senior Impact Evaluation Economist, you will measure and report on the value of CSIRO’s research outputs and infrastructure. You’ll work independently and collaboratively across a wide scope of Business Units and projects. You will be a key player in decision making, finance, research impact evaluation and the delivery of workshops to internal/external stakeholders.

You’ll contribute your strategic thinking, strong networking capabilities and expertise in economics/data analytics to drive the continued growth of the team.

Your duties will include:

  • Using economic evaluation techniques and methodologies to analyse and interpret results to determine the value of both prospective and retrospective research projects/programs within CSIRO. 
  • Contributing to the further development and embedding of CSIRO’s Impact Framework.
  • Developing a knowledge base and understanding of economic analysis of research and innovation interventions, with a view to form relationships for future collaboration. 
  • Managing impact case studies completed by the external consultant pool.
  • Providing support for the external consultant panel, including validating proposed impact analysis approaches and results, and reviewing/assessing the quality of evaluation reports. 
  • Project managing and providing expert input into CSIRO’s Impact Evaluation Guide.
  • Other duties as directed.

Location: Brisbane, QLD, Canberra ACT or Melbourne VIC preferred, with other locations negotiable.
Salary: AU$117k - AU$138k plus up to 15.4% superannuation

To be considered you will need:

  • Minimum bachelor level degree in economics, finance, or other related field involving extensive course work in economic and/or financial theory and analysis.
  • Capacity to undertake economic assessments and analysis including a demonstrated ability to analyse and present quantitative and qualitative data and information.
  • Demonstrated experience working with or within a science and research organisation (or a related sector), evaluating, analysing, and reporting influencing options with reasoned arguments.
  • Minimum 4-5 years professional experience in economics and financial research and analysis, particularly cost benefit analysis.
  • Strong data analytics experience and skills with both quantitative and qualitative data analysis and reporting.
  • Experience engaging with, and effectively influencing, a broad range of stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated strong project management experience with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Direct experience in various forms of communication, specifically writing reports and verbal presentations to various audiences.
  • A client orientation and proven ability to produce high quality written material in a timely manner. Flexibility and ability to work effectively in a complex and dynamic environment, to adapt quickly and proactively manage and re-prioritise multiple tasks.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment, proactively collaborating, as well as sharing resources to accomplish objectives.
