This role is a fantastic opportunity for an academic in the discipline of Mathematical Sciences to actively contribute to our strategic growth plans in the School of Mathematical and Physical Sciences.  We offer a supportive and collaborative environment and are inviting applications from academics at Lecturer, Senior Lecturer or Associate Professor level.

Headed up by Associate Professor Chris Poulton and Dr Tapan Rai and the Mathematical Sciences Discipline at UTS consists of an inclusive and dynamic group of researchers which is growing rapidly through a series of strategic hires in areas of research strength. While candidates from all areas of Mathematics and Statistics are encouraged to apply, the Discipline is particularly seeking applicants who can contribute to one or more of the following key areas:

  • Financial Mathematics and Stochastic Processes
  • Applied Statistics with particular emphasis on Biostatistics, Bioinformatics or Forensic Statistics
  • Data Science
  • Mathematical Physics (with a focus on theoretical photonics) and Differential Equations.

As the successful applicant you will have:

  • doctoral qualifications or equivalent experience in an area relevant to the Mathematical Sciences Discipline.
  • demonstrated capacity to work independently and as part of a team (for appointment at Level D, lead a team)
  • demonstrated ability to teach (for appointment at Level D demonstrated excellence in teaching) within a higher education context
  • demonstrated (for appointment at Level C nationally recognised; for appointment at Level D internationally recognised) track record of research excellencea
  • record of success (for appointment at Level C/D) or the capacity for success (Level B), relative to opportunity,  in securing nationally competitive research grant.

Remuneration/Salary                   

 Base Salary Range: $96,992 to $151,341 pa Level B/C/D

The university offers 17% superannuation in addition to the base salary and salary packaging opportunities.  The university is a family-friendly workplace and offers employees a wide range of work options including flexible work practices, work-based child care centres, generous parental leave and support for staff with carer responsibilities.

This appointment will be on a continuing, full-time basis, but flexibility can be considered.
